The days just seem to fly by. They start to run together. It's easy to get caught up in the concerns of the future. We stress and worry. Most of the things we worry about never come to pass, thankfully. But, in all that time we spent stressing, the present moment slipped away. We can't go back in time to correct our mistakes and we can't look ahead to prevent future mistakes. This moment, right here and now, is all we have for certain.
Here are 3 steps to staying calm in the moment:
Step 1: Breathe Deeply
Our breathing becomes shallow when we get stressed. Taking deep breaths has a calming effect. Breathe in for a count of 4 and breathe out for a count of 4 and repeat.
Step 2: Look Around
Despite what's going on in your life, take a minute to look around and notice how many things are going well. Start naming them and soon you'll realize that you have everything you need in that moment. You're alive, clothed, have friends/family that love you, and on and on.
Step 3: Take Inspired Action
Change what you can. Focus on what you can control. Nothing will change in your life until you change it. Remember, that you don't have to take action alone. Ask for help and be willing to receive it.
