My son and I went to visit my mom in North Carolina last week. While visiting we went to the park. Let me preface by saying that Caleb and I are connoisseurs of parks. We love going to new parks. It's our thing. We even have a system...he knows that we have to walk first and then we can go to the playground.
Ok, so while we were at this particular park noticed that every single mom there was sitting down. I, on the other hand, was all over the place. I was in the sandbox, on the swing, and spinning around on some contraption. We always have a great time at the park. The spinning did give me a little motion sickness though.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with relaxing or sitting down at the playground. This situation just made me wonder what impressions we send to our children about adulthood. Are you showing them that being an adult is stressfull and boring? Do they see a balance of work and play? Do you laugh at yourself? At times we can get caught up in the pressures of society and forget to let go and have fun. When I'm playing with my son at the playground I am truly living in the present. The mistakes of the past and the fears for the future don't exist.
I want to show Caleb that adults can have fun on and off the playground.
