In January I attended a 3-day training session. I met some amazing men and women. There was one man that I truly wanted to connect with because I admire the work he does in the world.
I walked up to him at the end of the event, but we didn't have a chance to talk. He'd run out of business cards. I gave him my card and that could have been it...but....
I was determined to work this man some how, some way. I didn't have any of his contact information, other than his name. I did have a LinkedIn account. We connected online and I sent him a follow-up message where I expressed interest in serving his community. He didn't reply.
A few weeks later, I sent him another message expressing my sincere interest in serving his community and boldly offered to speak at No Charge. I was willing to waive my speaking fee because I was confident in my abilities. I was going to make the most of my one shot. I'd never made this offer before. Well...he responded. We arranged a time to chat.
Before the call I had to calm myself down. I was getting ready to chat with a multi-millionaire. OMG! The call went very, very well. So well in fact that he's now my corporate client, an international client. In less than 3 months, I've been to Mexico 3 times (all expenses paid)!!!
