How targeted should your niche be? The answer to that question could potentially be worth a million dollars to you as a entrepreneur. It's the difference between your business succeeding and failing.
Most entrepreneurs act like a runaway bride when asked to choose their niche. It feels like a lifetime commitment. They get cold feet at the thought of it. I know because I've been there. Saying "I Do" to one specific group of people seemed like I was clamping on a ball and chain.
I wanted to help everyone (and still do). Choosing a niche felt like I was giving up my freedom. It meant that I wouldn't be able to play the field anymore. Then the What If's crept in. What if I chose the wrong one? What if a better niche came along? What if they don't like me?
The truth is that choosing a niche is one of the best decisions you can make as entrepreneur. The doubt washes away and clarity shines brightly. The more you drill down who your ideal client is, the better your marketing. Let's say you want to target women. Well, married women and unmarried women have different needs. You can't talk to moms of teenagers about potty training. You can try, but it'll be a short conversation.
As much as we want to help everybody, we can't. Each of us is here to help a specific group of people. This is your tribe - your community. They get you. They want what you have to offer. They are you and you are them. Choosing a niche will help you create dynamic sales copy, programs, and products that speak your ideal client's language. Speaking to the right people will improve your profit margin every single time.
Choosing a niche isn't a forced marriage. You have the freedom to change your mind as you see fit. Your community will evolve and grow over time. So will you and your business. Your niche today may be different in 2-5 years. That's okay. Actually it's perfectly normal.
Your turn! Share your niche below and how you serve them. I'll come back and join in the conversation. Your ideal client may be reading this :)
