When you were a child you couldn't wait to grow up. Not because it seemed like it was so much fun, but because you could do whatever you wanted to do. No one told grownups when to go to sleep or stopped them from eating all the candy they wanted. Grownups seemed to have it made. They appeared to be limitless.
As you now know, it's quite the contrary really. There will always be rules and regulations. Even adults have to go to bed at a certain time. Somewhere along the way the rules imposed upon us by society, loved ones, and ourselves created 10ft walls around us. At some point a ceiling appeared above us and limited our potential for greatness. We stopped believing in the impossible. We stopped playing. We stopped celebrating the present moment. We stopped being and started doing.
You were truly limitless when you were a child. You trusted that everything that you needed would always be provided for you. You were fully present as you played outside. Everyone was your friend. You gave smiles and hugs freely. Your imagination was infinite. Your energy and enthusiasm for life couldn't be contained. The events of the day vanished as you closed your eyes and new excitement rose with the opening of your eyes in the morning. Each moment was an adventure. You eagerly anticipated Christmas day in June, yet you allowed life to unfold at will without resistance.
Would you like to feel this way again on a consistent basis? Well, you can because the little girl/boy is still inside of you. S/He's always been there playing silently until you call upon her/him. Your inner child awaits. Playtime isn't over. Being a grownup isn't about taking life so seriously. Life is meant to be enjoyed on a daily basis, not just on vacation. When you allow your inner child to participate in your day-to-day activities you don't need a vacation from life.
So, how are you going to incorporate playtime into your day-to-day life as a grownup? Leave a comment below (it may inspire someone who's still figuring out how to play) :)
